Bishop Bobby King Cole and Mrs. Marlon and her staff put together a magnificent 28th anniversary of the Gospel Express and 3rd World Series of Gospel Awards Ceremony. Oh what a foot stomping, hand clapping body rocking time the people had. With names like Leroy Burks & the Gospel connection, Lee Logan & the Drifters, The Southern Jubilees, The Mighty Kings of Harmony and Robert Houston & True Dedication.
The event took place at the Evangelist Temple C.O.G.I.C. 2552 Popular, Memphis, TN, Saturday January 26th and Sunday the 27th 2008. There were people from all walks of life celebrating the Gospel. There were awards given to people who were very worthy. Gospel Announcer DJ Ford Nelson has 58 years at WDIA. Many legends got their big break on this station including B.B King, Rufus Thomas and the late Elvis Presley was greatly influenced by the station. The categories were Male Vocalist of the Year, Female Vocalist of the year, Best Group or Duo of the year, and praise God, Choir of the Year was awarded to Robert Houston & True Dedication. The choir has recently had national exposure with their Music Video airing of B.E.T's Video Gospel and performing live on the Word Network for Dr. Bobby Jones Artist Retreat. Future plans include a trip to Jackson, MS February 28th through March 1st to showcase for Malaco and Blackberry Records at the Exclesisa Enterprise 7th Annual Showcase Extravaganza. The event will be hosted by Melvin Williams of the Williams Brothers and Harvey Watkins of the Canton Spirituals.
